Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Pitch Notes.
- Accumulator
- A bet that combines multiple selections; all must win for the bet to pay out.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap given to a team to level the match, reducing the number of possible outcomes.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for betting.
- Bet Builder
- A feature allowing you to combine different markets from a single match into one wager.
- Bet Slip
- The digital record of your chosen bets and the amount you intend to wager.
- Cash Out
- The option to settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Double Chance
- A bet covering two of the three possible match outcomes (win/draw, etc.).
- Draw No Bet
- A bet that refunds your stake if the match ends in a draw.
- Edge
- The statistical advantage a bettor believes they have over the bookmaker's odds.
- Expected Value
- The average amount you expect to win or lose per bet over time.
- Fold
- Another term for a selection in an accumulator; also used to describe a losing bet.
- In-Play
- Bets placed after the match has started, with odds that update during the game.
- Juice
- The commission or margin the bookmaker adds to the odds, also called "vig".
- Lay
- To bet against a particular outcome, often used in exchange betting.
- Live Betting
- Same as In‑Play; betting on events as they happen.
- Margin
- The bookmaker's built‑in profit margin expressed as a percentage of the true odds.
- Odds
- The numerical expression of the likelihood of an outcome, determining potential payout.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether a specific statistic (e.g., total goals) will be above or below a set number.
- Parlay
- A single bet linking two or more outcomes; all must be correct to win (similar to accumulator).
- Spread
- The range set by the bookmaker for a particular statistic, used in point spread betting.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a bet.
- Total Goals
- A market betting on the combined number of goals scored in a match.
- Void
- A bet that is canceled and the stake is returned, usually due to a match being postponed or a rule breach.
- Yield
- The net profit from betting relative to the total amount wagered, expressed as a percentage.
